Dyaf just released on 7/24! This was a collaboration between myself (Saint Winters) & Eric Canto from the band Honestly.
Eric and I have known each other for almost 10 years now and after years of talking about it we finally sat down and finished a song.
The story behind the song is someone who visits their hometown after being away for a few years. Wether it be traveling abroad, going off to college in another state, or whatever the case may be. This person goes to a party and a bunch of people from the old days are there. Their old crush is there but this time they finally have the courage to talk to them. The story ends (or begins) with a brief but passionate sexual encounter.
This collaboration was difficult for both of us at the beginning. Both of us are really used to being in the same room with the other artist we are creating with and me being based in Los Angeles and Eric Canto being in Southern Massachusetts, it proved to be a learning curve. We also kind of struggled with what we each thought was a collaboration. After passing the session back and forth and a few phone calls we really almost re learned how to communicate with each other verbally and musically. I think we really were able to have each of our styles mesh together in a way where respected and honored what each person brought to the song. I truly believe 50% of everything is Eric's contribution and style and the other 50% is mine.
We had so much, complimented each other's contributions, and encouraged each other along the way. It was really rewarding to look back and see that this song actually strengthened our communication and our friendship.
Both of us have agreed there is another collaboration that is going to happen in the future.
